Privacy Policy

MeTool (metool.online, "we", "our", or "the Site") is a free online tools platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may collect when you visit and use the Site, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

Most MeTool utilities process your files entirely in your browser — we do not upload your images, videos, or documents to our servers. The one exception is the Feature Hub (our feedback board), which requires sign-in: suggestions, comments, and images you choose to post there are stored on our servers, as described in "Feature Hub Account & Content" below. As a website operator, we also collect certain visit and device information through cookies and third-party advertising and analytics services.

1. Information You Provide

When you email us, we receive the address, message body, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information only to respond to your inquiry.

2. Feature Hub Account & Content

The Feature Hub feedback board is optional and only involves the following data if you sign in and use it:

• Account info: signing in via email magic link stores your email address; signing in via GitHub / Google stores the account ID, display name, and avatar URL returned by that provider (never your password or other private data on that platform)
• Login session: after signing in, we set an httpOnly session cookie in your browser to recognize your login state — it cannot be read by page scripts
• Content you post: the title and body of feature requests you submit, comments, upvotes ("I want this too"), follows, and any images you choose to attach
• Human verification: when submitting a request or comment, we invoke Cloudflare Turnstile for bot verification, which may collect information necessary to complete the check (see its Privacy Policy)

This data is used only to operate the Feature Hub (displaying suggestions, sending status-change notifications, preventing abuse) — never for ad targeting.

3. Automatically Collected Technical Data

When you browse the Site, we may collect through services such as Google Analytics (GA4):

• Pages viewed, session duration, and referral source
• Approximate geographic location (country/region level)
• Browser type, operating system, and device category
• Anonymous technical parameters such as screen resolution

This data helps us understand usage and improve the product. It is not used to identify you personally.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site and our partners may use cookies, local storage, and pixel tags to:

• Remember your language and theme preferences
• Keep you signed in to the Feature Hub (httpOnly session cookie, set only after you sign in)
• Measure traffic (Google Analytics)
• Deliver and measure ads (Google AdSense)

MeTool is built on client-side processing. Image compression, video editing, document conversion, 3D preview, and most other tools run on your device. Your file contents are never uploaded to MeTool servers, and we cannot access or store them.

Some tools (e.g. LAN transfer, HTML share) transmit data only when you explicitly initiate an action, using browser APIs between devices or temporary links — still without MeTool backend storage.

The one exception is the Feature Hub feedback board: it requires sign-in, and suggestions, comments, and images you choose to post are stored on our servers (hosted in Hong Kong); images are stored via Tencent Cloud Object Storage (COS). This content is publicly visible to all visitors by default — please don't include personal or sensitive information in it.

Google Analytics (GA4)

We use Google Analytics to understand traffic and tool usage. Google may process data under its Privacy Policy. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Google AdSense

We display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve personalized ads based on your visits to this Site and other websites. Manage preferences at Google Ads Settings, or learn more at aboutads.info.

Third-party providers maintain their own privacy policies; we encourage you to review them.

Feature Hub Third-Party Services

These services are only involved if you use the Feature Hub (sign in, post requests, upload images):

• GitHub / Google OAuth — for third-party sign-in; we only receive the account ID, display name, and avatar
• Cloudflare Turnstile — bot/spam verification
• Resend / Tencent Cloud Simple Email Service (SES) — sends the magic-link sign-in email; only sees your email address
• Tencent Cloud Object Storage (COS) — stores images you attach to requests via a direct, temporarily-signed upload; the image bytes never pass through our own server

Third-party providers maintain their own privacy policies; we encourage you to review them.

• Operate, maintain, and improve MeTool features and performance
• Understand which tools are most useful to guide product development
• Display advertising to support free service operation
• Respond to inquiries, feedback, and support requests
• Operate the Feature Hub: display the requests/comments you post, record votes and follows, and send in-app notifications when a request you follow changes status
• Detect and prevent spam or vote manipulation on the Feature Hub
• Comply with applicable laws and regulations

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only when:

• Required by contracted service providers such as Google (Analytics, AdSense), GitHub/Google (OAuth sign-in), Cloudflare (Turnstile), and Resend/Tencent Cloud (email delivery, object storage), limited to what they need to deliver their services
• Feature requests, comments, and images you post to the Feature Hub are publicly visible to all visitors by default
• Required by law, court order, or legitimate government request
• Necessary to protect the rights and safety of the Site, users, or the public

Aggregated analytics data is retained according to Google account and product settings. Emails you send are deleted within a reasonable period after your request is handled, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Feature Hub account data and the content you post are retained until you request account deletion, or content is removed by a moderator for violating these terms. Magic-link sign-in tokens are single-use and expire after 15 minutes.

Data stored locally in your browser (e.g. recently used tools in localStorage) is under your control and can be removed by clearing browser data.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Know what information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of certain data, including deleting your Feature Hub account and its content, where permitted by law
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
